Torbalı to Ödemiş
- OpenStreetMap location
- Length: 73,9 Km (including the branch to Tire)
This branch was built by the ORC to serve Tire and Ödemiş and all the village of the Kuçuk Menderes river. This an area agriculturaly rich and quite polutated.
The line goes nearly straight from Torbalı to Ödemiş, with a 11km spur to server Tire along the way. The valley is quite large and flat. There are hardly any civil engineering apart from the bridges required to cross the Kuçuk Menderes and its tributaries.
This line always had a good passenger service to Izmir. In about 2010, TCDD and the greater Izmir area invested to rebuilt the station platforms, reinforce the track and introduce modern trains. This line is now part of a long distance suburb service of Izmir.
For a long time, the line was operated as a single line with trains going to Tire, reversing there and back to Çatal where a triangle junction allowed direct running to Ödemiş. This was stopped in about 2018 when the service was upgraded with higher train frequency. The line is now operated as a Y. services to/from Izmir are going alternatively to Tire and Ödemiş. The obvious main benefits is much faster service on the Ödemiş branch that don't need to go and reverse in Tire. The very rare passengers travelling from Tire to Ödemiş will have to take a connection in Çatal.
