In 1960/61 Fiat built 15 three-car diesel trains for TCDD derived from the FS Aln668, 1400 type. Each set has two motor cars and a trailer in between them. Each motor car has two engines. Each engines is powering one axle through a hydro-mechanical transmission. The motor cars are very similar to the Aln668: they kept the same frame and the same under frame arrangements. The MT5500 body has the same width and is a little bit taller than the Aln668. It has the same door arrangement is the middle of body.

MT5500, which is serving the Göller Express from Isparta is pulling into Basmane station, This unit is in a sorry state but it has already expanded its useful life of 35 years. These units also serve between Basmane-Denizli. Despite their lower power and higher age, they make the route Basmane-Denizli in approximately 30 mins less than DE18100 hauled trains. August 2001. A "strange" MT5500 train made of (from left to right) MT55071+MT5512C+MT5512. MT55071 has a heavy rebuilt front end which is now completely flat. MT5512 is a light rebuilt and only the windows are flat. pictures taken Selçuk in September 2001, by Altan Ataman. My own guess is MT55071 could be a rebuilt MT5507A making up for a not servicealbe MT5512A
