DE18001 to DE18005

The DE18000 were part of the same order to French industry as the DE24000 (see below). These DE18000 are a lightweight BoBo version of the DE24000. They have a 12 cylinders engine instead of a 16 cylinders. Accordingly, the weight is down to 80t, thus giving an axle load of 20t. The DE18000 and the DE24000 share many common parts and look very similar.
This short batch of 5 units was a trial. TCDD much preferred the CoCo version and never ordered any additional DE18000. DE18000 spend most of their live in Izmir area, working on all kind of duties.
The DE18000 was followed by a A1AA1A version, the DE18100, identical in all part except the bogies and the axle load.
All DE18000 are now retired from service except DE18003 still going along.
