DH27003 are a 6 axles version of the very popular V200 diesel loco used in Germany, and of a similar design to the ML2200 C'C' delivered to the Yougoslavian railway. The DH27001 is unique in its body design with a single center cab, in the middle of the 2 long hood, each covering a V12 Maybach MD655 diesel engine. Each engine was located above a bogie and transmission to the wheel wal done using a Voith hydro transmission. The locomotives were geared for heavy gradients, resulting in a top speed of only 100 km/h

These three loco were purchased by TCDD and tried as an alternative to the American built diesel. Although the performance of these mighty locos was very good, TCDD never ordered a follow-up batch and went for the GE locos. It is said that the price and the financing package of the later was much better.

These 3 locos stayed in service about 20 years until the arly 1980s.
